COLLECTION AND LAND
Odaiza de Vega Sindoa
Odaiza is a Basque place name which means “place of springs”. This is a beautiful, south-facing hillside at the highest point of the Valley of Nekeas. Its stony ground is so wonderfully drained that springs appear at the bottom, partly feeding the small Sindoa stream.
Vines have been grown on this hillside for centuries, always successfully.
Since 1989, it has been home to a Chardonnay which has shown year after year that it is capable of speaking of “its home"; the composition of the soil is reflected in the wine’s elegant minerality, the extraordinary exposure to the wind and sun in clean, fresh aromas and the fine ripening of the grapes in traces of sweetness.
Production is low, meaning that we have to make do with just a few bottles each year, no more than 3,000.
Varietal content:
100% Chardonnay
Prefermentation maceration lasting several hours prior to pressing.
Fermentation in French oak barrels.
Aged in barrels for 4 months on its own lees with frequent battonage.
Filtered through cellulose plates prior to bottling.
